You can create your own Harry Potter costume for your next Halloween costume party, trick-or-treating escapade, or whenever a fun and creative costume is needed. Creating a Harry Potter costume is relatively simple. After all, when it comes down to it, Harry Potter is just a regular kid who happens to be blessed (and sometimes, it seems, cursed) with a number of magical abilities. But at heart he is still just a young man trying to find his way in this world. He is basically a young adult entering adulthood, and he dresses more or less like a regular teenager most of the time. Here are a few tricks to getting the Harry Potter look just right.

Of course, you will need a pair of wire-rimmed glasses. Harry’s simple wire-rimmed glasses are one of his major trademarks, so your Harry Potter costume simply won’t be complete without this crucial accessory. If you don’t already wear glasses, don’t fret. Getting your hands on a pair of Harry Potter-like glasses is simple enough. Simply head down to your nearest drugstore or retail outlet and head to the pharmacy section. Most pharmacies carry a good selection of non-prescription reading glasses. Browse the selection until you find a pair that seems like something Harry would wear. Be careful with your new pair of glasses. Just because they are not prescription glasses does not mean that you will not hurt your eyes wearing them. To be safe, make sure you carefully remove the glass or plastic lenses from the glass frames. Even better, try to find a pair that do not have a prescription so you do not have to worry about removing the clear plastic or glass part from the frame. If you cannot find clear, see-through lenses, take your glasses to the pharmacy or store optometrist and ask them to remove the see-through part for you. This is especially a good idea if they are made of glass.

Another crucial part of your Harry Potter costume is to find the right shirt. To really look like Harry, you will have to locate a long-sleeved polo shirt that is striped with bars of gold and maroon. Gold and maroon are the official colors of the house of Gryffindor, so if you are unavailable to find a striped polo shirt, at least make certain that you get the colors right. If possible, find a striped polo shirt that has an emblem near the heart. With the red and gold polo shirt you can wear jeans or nearly any bottom. You should also try to approximate Harry Potter’s hairstyle to truly get the costume right. You can pattern your Harry Potter against the image of Daniel Radcliff that has been popularized in the Harry Potter films, or you can try to pattern your costume against the image of Harry that is depicted on the cover art of the popular books. Simply comb your hair forward a bit so that you have the rough image of bangs like Harry does on the book covers and in the movies. Of course, this will come off even better if you happen to have dark hair like Harry Potter.

Finally, to complete your homemade Harry Potter, you can use several props to help ‘prop’ up your costume as it were. You can make or purchase a magic wand, and drape a cloak around your shoulders. Of course, you can also use face makeup to draw a simple zigzag on your forehead. This lightning bolt emblem across your forehead may just be the most important detail of getting the Harry Potter costume right.

There exists another world beyond the magical world of Harry Potter—this is the frenzied world of Potter maniacs where Harry Potter is the new twenty first century icon and J.K Rowling is the name of an unbeatable brand of new age literature.

This is a world of different kind that is dominated by the obsessed Muggles that can do just about anything to grab their share of the latest Harry Potter saga! They break into same level of hysteria as it comes to the display of admiration for the amazing wizard born out of the pen of J.K Rowling.

The Potter mania worldwide finished off its final round of frenzy with the release of the last installment of the Harry Potter saga—at last the Potter fans are approaching the climax that awaits the answers to the questions like what happens to Harry Potter scars? Is Sirus Black is returning in this novel? What fate awaits the Lord Voldemort? Are Ron and Hermione coming together? What about R.A.B?

But the question that seems to kill the potter fans with suspense is whether the boy wizard is dead or alive in the end!

Well, the leading bookstores all over the came to witness more or less the same hysteria of the fanatical, suspense-driven, anxiety bitten Muggles that spent sleepless nights in the footpaths only to grab their share of the copy of Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows.

Cutting across the barriers of race or nationality – Potter fans from Tokyo to Texas, Manhattan to Mumbai – waited with baited breath all these days only to know what awaits them in the page number 705 of the latest Harry Potter Saga! However, thousands of Potter maniacs seemed to be too short of breath to go through the entire book; instead they took the short cut to the page number 705 to know what happens in the end to their beloved wizard.

The frenzy that started with sleepless nights of waiting is going to end in more sleepless nights; the true potter Maniacs show no sign of stopping before they uncover all the long awaited questions. Young fans all over the world are alike in their obsession with Potter magic. The newspapers all over the world repeat the same story – young readers warn their parents – no going to bed till they finish reading the entire story.

For a generation who has grown up along with the boy wizard, living without Harry Potter is going to be plain painful and the teenagers seem to share the same sentiments in all corners of the globe! However here is good news for the Potter Maniac at the heart: the final Harry Potter saga follows the true epic style! It rounds up like all is well that ends well. That is all we can tell you about the Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows right now. To know about the rest, you have to take a journey through the world of Harry Potter.
5. Harry Potter Fan Zone: The site keeps readers up-to-date on the latest Harry Potter news, and also has lots of media to browse and loads of informational content.

4. MuggleNet: This site is chock full of stuff to keep even the most avid Harry Potter fan busy for hours on end, including a huge forum, movie info, quotes, and more.

3. Veritaserum: This site is probably the most creative in my book, they’ve got an interesting layout (and not cluttered like many other HP fan sites are), loads of photos to peruse, a nice fat forum, and more ~ definitely not one to be missed!

2. The Leaky Cauldron: With a super cool design, loads of images and information, and a massive forum, you can’t really go wrong here. A few of their more interesting links weren’t working, like the links to ‘crafts’ and ‘quizzes’ – but hey, it’s still great.

1. HPANA: Has the largest Harry Potter forum out there, tons of photos and content, the latest news -Â what it lacks in its somewhat plain (yet very organized and clean) design, it certainly makes up for in content.

Did you agree with our list? What are your favorite HP fan sites? Fill us in!

One of Hermione Granger’s favorite subjects at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is Arithmancy. Arithmancy is not a fantasy subject that JK Rowling, creator of the Harry Potter series, made up to entertain readers. It is an actual method of divination that is traced back all the way to the Ancient Greeks. According to Hermione Granger herself, Arithmancy is one of her favorite subjects at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry because it is scientific in nature, extremely precise, measurable, and an empirical, scientific method of divining the future. Arithmancy is used by learned wizards to divine the future in a way that is not possible through other charms, spells, or books. First used by the ancient Greeks, the practice of arithmancy is considered somewhat obscure, but the popularity of the Harry Potter books have allowed this lost art of divination to gain new interest from Harry Potter fans.

How does arithmancy work? It is believed that the way arithmancy was first used in ancient times was before an important battle. Historians believe that the Greeks used arithmancy to divine what the outcome of a battle would be, and in the process of divining a battle, it was hoped that the outcome of the battle could also be controlled. How did the ancient Greeks use arthimancy to divine the outcome of battles? The ancient Greeks would use arithmancy to assign values to the letters in the names their battle combatants. This, they believed, allowed them to divine the outcome of battles. Later in history, around the ninth century BC, it is also believed that the Chaldeans in Arabia also practiced a form of arithmancy. It is believed that the Chaldeans form of arithmancy had to do with dividing their alphabet into three separate parts. Each part was to be comprised of only seven letters. Then, each of these seven letters was attributed to the seven planets that had been discovered at that time.

In the world of Harry Potter, wizards in training learn and practice arithmancy as a way to help divine and predict the future. Moreover, the wizards in training in the Harry Potter books tend to use arithmancy in conjunction with other charms, spells, or forms of magic in order to increase their chances of predicting the future correctly. The type of arithmancy that Hermione and her Hogwarts wizard in training pals use is very similar to the ancient form practiced by the Greeks. To practice the most basic form of arithmancy, simply use the name of the people whom you want to learn more about. To begin, take their name and convert each letter in their name into a number. Every letter in the alphabet should correspond to a specific number. Once you have figured out which number goes with each letter, you must’reduce’ your numbers by adding them all up together until you are only left with one digit.

Now it starts to get interesting. When you are trying to convert someone’s name by the method of arithmancy, you will probably end up with three numbers for them (that is, before you reduce the numbers into one digit). The first number you get is called the character number, and it is thought to describe the personality type of that person. The second number is referred to as their heart number, and it represents that person’s inner desires and fears. The final number is called the social number, and it represents the person’s outer personality.

It is no surprise why Hermione loves arithmancy so much: it requires a good deal of thought and calculation to find the right numbers, and Hermione is always up to such a challenge.

The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is one of the aspects of the Harry Potter books that make the series so appealing to many of us. Who hasn’t read one or more of the Harry Potter books without daydream about what it would be like to attend this magical place with Harry, Ron Weasley and Hermione? JK Rowling has created a magical school where Harry and his pals learn, grow, study and try to master all the charms and spells in their textbook, while solving mysteries and battling the dark forces of evil. It is certainly a lot of things for young adults to shoulder, but they do it mightily well. Rowling does done such a masterful job at imagining and describing this magical school, that one feels almost as if it really does exist out there in another dimension of our normal lives. Like a real school, one can speak of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as if it really existed because that is about how real it feels to many readers.

In the Harry Potter universe, the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is apparently the only known school of magic to exist in the United Kingdom. All children of Britain and Ireland who are known to possess magical qualities are qualified to enroll in the Hogwarts School as witches and wizards in training. The school can aptly be described as a secondary boarding school that is co-educational and that accepts children ages 11 to 18. The school is believed to accommodate roughly about 1000 students, although some critics have noted that there are too few people in Harry’s year for this number to be realistic. Of course, this is slight oversight that does not bother most readers of the book series.

It is not known exactly how the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is funded, but it does not appear that students must pay tuition. However, students are responsible for procuring many of their own school supplies. Professor McGonagall is responsible for sending out letters to all young children with magical abilities who will turn eleven years old by the last day of August. There is a magical quill at Hogwarts School that detects the birth of all the magical children in the area, and their names are scripted into a large parchment book. When it comes time, all the magical children who are of age will receive a letter informing them that they are eligible to enroll at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The letter also informs them that they should accept or decline the invitation by the last day of July. The letter also informs the prospective students that they should procure certain supplies if they will be attending Hogwarts. Supplies include spell books, a Hogwarts uniform, and other miscellaneous supplies that are available for purchase at the shops along Diagon Alley. Diagon Alley is a secret street that is located near Charing Cross in London. There is extensive description of the intriguing shops located at Diagon Alley. Those students who cannot afford to buy the necessary supplies are supplied with financial aid from the school. This is the case for Tom Riddle, a young orphan in the series.

All Hogwarts students are allowed to bring one pet with them to keep while at school. The pet can either be a cat, owl, or toad. Most students choose to keep owls as pets because they can deliver their mail back home, and retrieve messages and packages from the home front. The Hogwarts school year always begins on the first day of September.

The Quidditch World Cup is one of the major events that occur in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth installment in the hugely popular Harry Potter book series. The scene of the Quidditch World Cup in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is one of the most famous scenes in the book and movie version because it is full of excitement, drama, and of course, danger. The game of quidditch is a fictional game that JK Rowling invented for the Harry Potter books. The game has been likened to a combination of football soccer and rugby. Although the game is clearly fictional, it has developed a life of its own outside the confines of the printed Harry Potter books. Many children have been known to contrive their very landlocked version of the Quidditch sport. In the books, it is Harry’s favorite sport. Moreover, in recent years, EA Games has developed a very successful video game equivalent that is known as Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup.

As previously mentioned, the game Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup was created and released by EA Games, and it is based on the fictional game that is central to many of the Harry Potter books. In the video game version of this fictional yet thoroughly popular sport, the user must play for the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Quidditch Cup. That is, as the main player, you are representing Hogwarts School, and you will want to make all of your Hogwarts mates by playing your very best. The Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup game allows you to choose your favorite house at Hogwarts and then compete against the other houses. For instance, you can play against Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, depending on which team you choose as your own. Once you have conquered all of the other Hogwarts house teams, you are ready to move on to a bigger venue. In case of the Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup game, this means you can move on to an international venue. In the Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup game, you can compete against the United States, England, Germany, France, Spain, Scandinavia, Australia, Japan, and Bulgaria. If the Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup game has received criticism, it is mainly for leaving out Ireland. Fans of the game have complained that it makes no sense to keep Ireland out since the team won against Bulgaria in the Quidditch World Cup that is depicted in the fourth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.Â

Despite this criticism, the Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup has mostly received positive review from fans and critics alike. The game has been praised for its ability to allow players to experience the feeling of taking to the air. The game allows player to fully imagine the experience of flying through the air with great power and speed as they play the fictional game of Quidditch, Harry and his friend’s most beloved sport. The game of Quidditch, as it is depicted in the video game version, allows player to control one of two teams. Each team has seven players who whiz around on magical broomsticks. Both teams must play four balls simultaneously. Playing four balls at once makes for an exciting match no matter what your skill level or familiarity with Quidditch. Players are responsible for choosing and controlling every position on their team. They must make the three chasers try to score using the quaffle, control the beaters as they fend off the bludgers, and stay with the keeper who is responsible for protecting the goal.

So much has been written about the controversy surrounding the Harry Potter book series. Many fundamentalist Christian groups have complained that the Harry Potter books promote witchcraft and promote pagan ideals. Some Christian churches have even gone so far as holding Harry Potter book burnings. But does this mean that all Christians are against Harry Potter books? Is it possible to be a true Christian as well as a true Harry fan? Many Christians have answered this question loudly and with pride: yes! Many Christians have come out to voice their support over the hugely popular Harry Potter views.

Many prominent members of the Christian community have come out to support Harry Potter books and his creator, the writer JK Rowling. Many have defended Rowling and the Harry Potter books. Many Christian leaders have argued that the Harry Potter books help children by letting them become aware of occult practices. Many Christian leaders have also spoken positively about the Christian elements that they have detected in the Harry Potter books. In the book God, the Devil & Harry Potter, Congregationalist minister John Killinger argues that the Harry Potter books grow out of a fundamentally Christian understanding of the world. Furthermore, he writes that the Harry Potter books also transcend any one religion, but that they definitely grow out of a basically sense of Christianity. The struggle between good and evil that is depicted in the Harry Potter books, Killinger argues, is one example about how the books are basically Christian in nature. Killinger also notes that many of the basic motifs, symbols and creatures that are found in many of the Harry Potter books are based on ideas that stem from medieval Christianity. Furthermore, Killinger argues, the Harry Potter books are basically Christian and they are important books because they allow the readers to rise about the usual materialist preoccupations and get in touch with the mysterious and magical side of our existence on earth.

Another prominent pro-Harry Christian argument comes from Connie Neal, who has written several books supporting the Harry Potter books from a Christian perspective. In her book, The Gospel According to Harry, Rowling argues that the magic in the Harry Potter books is completely harmless and clearly pure make-believe. Furthermore, Neal argues, Christians who read and criticize the Harry Potter books read them very selectively. Neal argues that the same technique could be used to find the gospel in the Harry Potter books.

Another Christian writer who has published in defense of the Harry Potter books is John Granger. Granger argues that JK Rowling is following in the tradition of writers like C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, who he calls “closeted inklings.” These are writers who appear to be writing secular works, but who are, upon closer inspection, writing deeply religious (and in these cases, Christian) works. Granger argues that the Harry Potter books are riddled with Christian imagery such as the phoenix, centaurs, the stags, the unicorns, and the philosopher’s stone. He argues that all of these objects represent the truth of Christ in some way. He also argues that in all of the novels, Harry is forced to go through some kind of symbolic death and resurrection, which is reminiscent of Christ’s journey. Granger argues that Harry frequently goes through trials that are Christ-like, and that his battle against evil recalls the battles of the Old Testament. Most of the time, he argues, Harry must go underground, either figuratively or literally, to confront a villain, and then he rises again once that villain has been vanquished. Moreover, he argues that Harry’s relationship with his best friends represents important Christian values of harmony, loyalty, and peace.

JK Rowling may just be the most successful writer in publishing history. She is the undeniable publishing powerhouse of our times. How did she do it? How did a single mom living on state benefits end up becoming one of the most successful and wealthy women of our times? While Rowling professes to a lifelong love of literature and writing, it was not until her life appeared the most disorganized that she was able to pursue her dream wholeheartedly. She first got the idea for Harry Potter while stuck in commute. Here train commute was delayed between Manchester and London for four hours, and it was during this period that she says the idea of Harry Potter first came to her. When she got home, she set about writing down her ideas immediately.

In December 1994, Rowling’s had appeared to have taken a turn for the worse. She was recently divorced, unemployed and living as a single mother with her sister in Edinburgh, Scotland. She continued to live ‘on the dole’ as she completed her first novel. That book turned out to be Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (or Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States). She finished her novel in 1995, typing out the manuscript on an old manual typewriter. She sent the finished manuscript to Bryony Evans, a manuscript reader who was immediately enthusiastic over the novel. He was asked to only review the first three chapters, but he became an enthusiastic early supporter of Rowling. From his response, the Christopher Little Literary Agents in Fulham agreed to take Rowling on as a client and represent her in their quest to find a suitable publisher. The book was delivered to twelve separate publishing houses, all of whom rejected the manuscript. Finally, a year later, the book was finally accepted by Barry Cunningham, the editor of a small publishing press known as Bloomsbury. One tale to emerge from this early period is the story of Alice Newton, the eight-year-old daughter of the publishing chairperson. She was given the first chapter to review by her father, and upon finishing, the girl immediately demanded more. Even though her novel had been accepted for publication, Rowling’s editors advised her to get a day job since she was unlikely to make a living at writing children’s books. However, nothing could be further from the truth.

However, with a grant from the Scottish Arts Council, Rowling was able to continue work on her book series. Rowling’s first of many major publishing successes occurred when Scholastic Inc. paid Rowling more than $100,000 to publish her first book in the United States. In June of 1997, the Bloomsbury publishing house printed a small initial print run of only 1,000 copies of the first Harry Potter book. Now, these first print runs have become highly sought-after collector’s items. The book began to garner its share of positive criticism and began to pick up several book awards.

To this date, Rowling has written and published six Harry Potter’s books, and each has been more successful than the one before. Rowling is currently working on the seventh, and last, book of the series. The last three Harry Potter books that have been published have broken all kinds of records, and they have been noted as the fastest-selling books in all of history. The sixth Harry Potter book has been the most successful thus far, and currently holds the title of the Guinness World Record award for the fastest-selling book ever. It is said that the sixth Harry Potter book sold more copies in its first 24 hours of availability than The Da Vinci Code did in one whole year.Â

There is nothing ordinary about the world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is a place where a three-headed dog guards a chamber of secrets, where a friendly ogre named Hagrid protects the young wizards in training, where broomsticks fly, and owls deliver the mail. Who wouldn’t want to live in such a magical universe? Many close readers of the hugely popular Harry Potter series have also noticed that the plants depicted in the books do not escape JK Rowling’s (the creator of the Harry Potter series) watchful and detail-oriented eye. Indeed, no small detail seems to escape Rowling’s watchful eye. She seems to have planned every detail of her novels, and this much of what makes this so absorbing: she has created a whole other universe that seems real yet fantastical all at once. Here is a brief look at the plants that are highlighted in the Harry Potter books. These plants certainly constitute no ordinary horticulture.

At the fabulously magical Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, all the young wizards in training must take an herbology class named Magical and Mundane plants that allows students to learn the difference and be able to differentiate between plants that are mundane and those that are magical. Most of the magical plants have been entirely made up by Rowling herself, while many of the mundane plants are actually part of our own non-muggle world. Here is a brief sampling of some of the plants that are highlighted throughout the Harry Potter books series.

Abyssinian shrivelfig: Students learn how to prune and work with these plants. However, only second year herbology students are allowed to work with Abyssinian shrivelfig trees. When the shrivelfigs are peeled, they can be used as an active ingredient in the shrinking solution.

Alihotsy: According to Rowling, eating the leaves of this plant will cause hysteria in whoever ingests them.

Bouncing Bulb: This plant caused quite a fuss in one particularly eventful herbology class. The bulb was repotted during one herbology class. But then it accidentally wriggled free from Harry’s own hand, and then banged him across the face.

Bubotuber: What is this strange sounding thing? The bubotuber is said to look almost exactly like a giant, thick black slug. This strange plant is even known to squirm slightly when held. Although strangely enough, once the bubotuber has been planted, it will stick out vertically and straight as an arrow. Professor Sprout taught the fourth year students how to work with the pus from the bubotuber. The pus from this strange plant is known to react strangely with human skin. If it remains undiluted, it is well known that it will cause painful, oversized boils to rise from the skin. However, when it processed carefully and correctly, it can be diluted properly to create a wonderful cure for acne.

Devil’s Snare: This strange plant is well known because it is made of soft and springy vines and tendrils. The plant itself seems to possess some sense of touch. The plant does exactly what its name invokes: it is known to snare anyone who dares touch it. The Devil’s Snare plant will lace around the arms and legs of its capture and eventually choke them to death. Like quicksand, the more a person attempts to resist its embrace, the harder the plant will choke. However, if the person manages to relax, the Devil’s Snare plant will work slowly, allowing more time for rescue or possible escape. According to Rowling’s, the Devil’s Snare plant grows best in the darkest and dampest of all environments. It does not like fire. The best thing to do when caught in its grip is to use flames to drive it away, or use a flame spell against it.
